AMD 965 BE + Corsair H50 = High Temp's?

Have an H50 attached to my AMD 965 BE C3 processor. Before I mounted the cooler, I used to idle around 44 degrees and 58-60 under load.

Now that I have the cooler installed, I idle around 37-38 and 56-58 under load. Doesn't get there right away but climbs slowly but surely.

I might add that I have increased the multiplier to 19x (3.8 GHz total) And the cooler is mounted to pull cold air from outside. Tests have been made with Prime 95 torture test for around 1hr.

Are these temps reasonable? Seems a little too high imo.

PS. Sorry for yet another thread about temp's

What was the overclock before and what cooler did you use? Also depending on your case your fighting the natural flow of air.

Most cases blow air from front to back. Also keep in mind H50 is only slightly better then air cooling from most the benchmarks I have seen.

Those temps are predictable, my 965 c3 ran hot as hell, 64C on load leaving me to max out at only 3.9 on air (64 is the max rated temperature btw so you still have some headroom ;) ) but on a proper extreme water cooling setup I maxed out at 30C and had a stable oc of 4.2 :)

Overclock was the same before, no difference. Cooler was stock cooler.

It might be my fighting natural airflow. Air is coming in from front as well as back. Only thing pulling out air right now is the PSU.

Yeah that is a issue...turn your back fans + your radiator fan around so its pushing out. Should help temps some and make your PC a bit cooler as well. Just don't worry to much and remember H50 is a novice water cooling setup so it wont provide the same results of the more advanced water cooling setups.

Hehe, Nah i wasn't expecting that either. But feels like an $80 investment should provide some significant improvement though. Will play with it a bit after work today and let you know how it went.

I don't know if I could do that. my problem is that i do not feel comfortable playing with voltages.

Right now it becomes unstable at 3.9GHz, but maybe if I increased voltage, it would manage 4GHz. But not sure since a lot of people have a tough time reaching a stable 4.0GHz on AMD 965.

remember, with air cooling, you want more fans blowing air in, and less blowing air out. This helps with temps and keeps the dust out too.

Bought a new Antec 2000rpm fan and mounted that instead of the H50 fan, and temps went down to 32 idle and 48 load.

I like!
