Amd and Pentium

A friend of mine gave me his old pentium 3 but he lost his window software. Now I have a amd computer, I would like to take out the hard drive from my amd computer and install this hard drive to pentium (I will take out the pentium hard drive). After I install the amd's hard drive to the pentium then I run my amd's window software. Do you think this will work? Please advise.

While it may work its not a great idea. Conflicting drivers for the different platforms can lead to poor performance, and in some cases even cause the hardware to fail install/malfunction.

But if your not to keen on performance then it would hurt to try. And btw I hope your using a newer OS such as Windows XP.

Probably malfunctioning kernel? I always thought different chipsets could not use the same boot record unless they were very similiar.

Who said lol?
Anyway, I think should re-iinstall windows, you can always try, I know that if you change from a p3 to a p4 that it works, because I have done it before. I have NEVER had an AMD computer before so I don't know.

there was a guy here last night or yesterday that posted on every single thread in this board with "lol" reviving year old threads and all. I guess the mods deleted him thank god that was extremely annoying.

I saw that, all the lol's he posted where gone in like seconds and the threads went dormant again, silly bugger ;)

I have used an AMD for like... ever, i dont think i've ever had a pentium, not that i can remember anyway and when my friend tried this his PC died and he had to rebuy his chip because the software on it went all buggered, but the manufacturers said that this sometimes happened anyway with the chip he had.

So its 50-50 in my oppinion, go for it and if it breaks then you've got your old chip to fall back on :)

A lot of times it is the motherboard that gets you. I don't think it will work, but it's worth a try. I would try to install a universal IDE driver just to be safe, only because I used to run into problems when i would swap HDD with out universal IDE drivers on the windows.

get the magic jjelly bean software nad get the coa, and get your CD if it is the same as OS and install it with the COA

It works all right, you get yuor Office and Windows COA if yuo lost yours, Ive used it countless times, cause I lose my Xp and Vista keys. But now i memorize em =)
