AMD and PhysX

Hello i'm new to the forum but have hardware experience.
I was just thinking but i cant test it, would AMD graphics cards run better on NVIDIA recommended games, with a secondary Nvidia card as a PhysX processor?
I just though of this as my friend was upgrading his cards nvidia to a 970, any answer is appreciated :)

I'm pretty sure it will leave all of the normal graphics to the main AMD card and if the game is Physx enabled it will run JUST the physics on that card. So basically performance with an AMD card with Physx off would perform just as well with having an Nvidia card in there running the Physx.

I wouldn't spend money on a secondary card but if you've got an old one laying around it might be worth looking in to if you play many games that have it.

Anyhow thanks for you answer

physx is actually ONLY an nvidia technology. it won't work on any system with an amd gpu plugged in.

you can run it on your processor with an nvidia gpu plugged in, or on your nvidia gpu, or on a secondary nvidia gpu.

as soon as you plug in the amd gpu, even with an nvidia gpu plugged into a secondary slot, the game will not run physx.

that is how i understand it.

straight from their FAQ
Which graphics cards can accelerate NVIDIA PhysX?

All GeForce 8 series graphics cards and above with at least 256MB of local onboard graphics memory and at least 32 cores will be able to accelerate NVIDIA PhysX. If you intend to use an NVIDIA supported graphics card as a dedicated Physx card, the other graphics cards in the system must also use an NVIDIA GPU.

There used to be a hack to allow you to run an nVidia card as a dedicated PhysX card with an AMD card alongside, but these days it's just not worth it.

yea the only game ive ever played that used physx is batman arkham origins cause i got it free with my first 780ti. but, you can still play the game fine it just wont have physx enabled i dont think.

Correct. And if you enable PhysX, the game will just lag like crazy because it can't take advantage of the PhysX chip.

These are two good examples of PhysX:

And here's the list of games with PhysX support: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_with_hardware-accelerated_PhysX_support

PhysX will run on the CPU with your AMD card so it won't run as well as it would on an NVIDIA card where PhysX is done on the GPU.
