AMD Athlon 3300+ questions

Hi, just wondering, if I paired an AMD Athlon 3300+ with a top of the line graphics card, would I be able to pull off Ultra graphics on Doom? By top of the line, I mean a NVIDIA 6800, or Radeon X800.
 
the 3300 isnt that fast a processor. with that graphics card combo, and some ocing then sure it will get ultra.

yeh, actually. try taking your cpu out and seeing if it runs then! in the minimum/maximum specs for doom 3 its gotta say something for cpu...

Anyone who knows the foggiest thing about computers knows trying to boot up without a processor is not gonna work. Anyone who knows anything about Doom3 or that can read reviews will know the game is GPU bound -- not CPU bound.
 
Of course if we consider a game like Halflife2, it'd be a different story if i recall correctly :) With respect to Doom3, jacking the CPU clock up an extra few hundred MHz will result in a relatively small fps gain compred to say, going from 6800U to 2x6800U -- hence GPU bound

yea i know, I don't have a 6800, I was just seeing if that was the card I would want to upgrade to. I really have a NVIDIA 5500 FX 256MB
 
3300 are pretty slow, at least a 3500+, and doom 3's ultra settings are for 512mb cards.

You *do* realize that the 3300+ is clocked faster than the 3500+ right? ;)
