AMD Athlon 4000+

Hey

Even though I would be tempted to go past 2.4Ghz, I would not say that it would be worth it. I say leave it for some time and then OC to let's say 2.7Ghz or something of that sort. You will be able to do that fairly easily. You would however notice a difference in benchmarks should you chose to OC. However, it would not be anything astronomical.

If I OC, I can screw myself over and possibly kill my CPU, correct? If I **** up somehow? Cost about $350, so I don't want to risk that. Heh.

Yes

You are right. If you raise the voltage to the processor (Vcore) too high, you can "fry" the CPU. If you OC too much, you could face stability issues and so no. I would say just leave it for now.

Would it be worth overclocking? What would pushing it due, considering it's top of the line for single core?

Not exactly top of the line for single core as the FX series is AMD's flagship lineup. I personally wouldn't OC it right now. You probably don't need that extra little boost anyways. Wait till when you actually need the boost, then OC it. So if you by accident fry it (which you shouldn't if you're careful), you wouldn't feel THAT bad.

From what I've read and heard, the FX series is a rip-off. I was going to get an FX-55, but so many people have said it's crap. =/
