Hello All,

I'm looking to upgrade my Geforce 7300GT. My motherboard is Asus A8n5x, CPU is athlon 64 2200 MHz and 4 gig of pc3200 DDR SD ram. Is my CPU powerful enough to run a Geforce 8800GTX, or can someone recommend me a most suitable display card for my cpu? Thanks so much!!

like said it will run but the GTX will be bottlenecked, cant you upgrade the processor? or maybe OC

i would say the FX-60 would be the best CPU to put on it an that's still a reasonaball CPU it also has a unlocked multiplier.
i have a m8 with it he has it running at 3.4GHz an he said he has had it at 3.6GHz

ohh really? I didnt know that. I thought GTX are generally better than the GTs. If 8800GT is a better choice, which brand would you recommend? Thanks!

What does it mean that it will "bottleneck" it??
It means that your CPU is probably too slow, and you won't be able to see the full potential of the graphics card. However, even with your CPU the jump from a 7300 to 8800 will be massive.

"bottlenecking" means that one part in your computer is much much faster than another part and your computer loses performance because of it.

for instance, in this case the 8800gtx would be bottlenecked by the processor. this means that even if you bought a lower grade graphics card your computer would perform the same... about as fast as the processor will let it perform.

another instance is the new quad core processors... they can process things faster than memory and/or the front side bus can get information in and out of the cpu, and therefore the fsb bottlenecks the processor.

i suggest building a new computer... not only because your processor is slightly outdated, but because other parts in your computer could hold you back if you start upgrading parts... for instance, a 350watt psu. that could be ugly.

That won't work with DDR ram.

get whatever brand is cheapest or offer's freebies, its all the same card

NEVER DO THAT!!!!!

I have seen some very horrible versions of the 8800GT the ones from ASUS are a joke...zero fan control so its stuck @ 20% speed while gaming. Friend of mine got screwed that way.

Go with a EVGA 8800GT make sure to sign up to their site and put in your GPU code for a LIFETIME warranty. IF you overclock and destroy it they will even cover it its a fantastic warranty.

I see. So the best thing right now for me is to upgrade my CPU too, and the best CPU I can put on my Asus a8n5x would be the AMD FX 60, and it is going to be compatible with my A8n5x motherboard and my sd ddr ram (PC3200) ( I have 4 gig of it) So lets say if I upgrade the CPU, what is the fastest card I can run with that CPU?

O yah, for changing CPU can I just grab my old one out, and put the new one in? Is it going to affect my computer OS and all that setting stuff?

Thank you so much for the replies! =]
