?? AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Dual Core processor CPU *

I wouldn't say it's worth that much but it means it can do 2 different things at the same time, unlike current CPUs which mimic doing 2 things by time slicing.

Best processor money can buy at the moment (in terms of desktop workstations...)

Tons of OC headroom (just like a San Diego FX-57), plus you get the dual core benefit (2MB cache 1xeach core)

Good luck finding one in stock - I tried to order one a few weeks ago and got nowhere - that's why I had to use an FX-57 here

depends on what you intend to dso with it. You'd have to be pushing some intensive tasks/games to really see the benefit.
So what is it going to be used for?

internet capabilty and web page creation are light weight tasks, any cpu will do that fine.
When you say pretty good game platform then amd sound like the path, but that requirement should be easily filled by a high end amd 64, say 3800+ or 4000+. Save yourself about $300 and get a good graphics card.
