AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600 or Intel Core 2 Duo E6300

Sorry to create another processor thread but i have more money for a cpu then i thought i did, but now i'm so confused on what cpu to get i was gonna get the Amd Athlon 64 X2 4600 but someone told me the Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 is better. Is the E6300 better, its only 1.86ghz and the X2 4600 is 2.4ghz and has more front bus speed.

It will be used for multitasking and hardcore gaming, ( some games say they recommend a minimum of 2ghz for the cpu, so how would that work with the E6300 since its only 1.86ghz? )

What ones better and why? I dont wanna do any overclocking.

They are bout even.

But the core 2 duo has better overclocking capabilities.
Here when it is overclocked it beats the x2 3800+ (3.0ghz) by a considerable margin. Speaking theoretically that is an fx-62 compared to it.

*Answer to second question is yes it would run, and it would run it blazing fast.

EDIT: Just noticed you didn't want to do any overclocking. um..... not for sure. I am thinking to go for the x2 4600. Mostly a better performer. BUT do not get the x2 if it is more expensive, which in your case I am guessing it is.

I went to Toms hardware and they didnt have the E6300 so i looked at the E6400 and it beats the X2 4600 in every test. Would the E6400 having DDR2 800 ram compared to the X2 4600 having DDR 400 in those tests make any difference?

No, if some only little. Did you look above to my original post? There are benchmarks right there. What are the prices you are considering?

Hi

You should choose the E6300 which is more performant.

You wrote "is the E6300 better, its only 1.86ghz and the X2 4600 is 2.4ghz" but today, frequency is less important than few years ago.... Take the E6300 ;)

I think its because "A" is the best grade you can get in school, and he thinks anything that begins with "A" is the best.

:P...

anyways, i would go with the Intel Core 2 Duo E6300... if not much better performance-wise and you don't want to overclock, it will offer better upgrading possibilities as of right now... (AMD doesn't have any CPU's that compare with Intel's higher-end tier of Core 2 Duos)...

id go with the 4600+
AM2 though, so its upgradable to 65nm athlon 64's when they come out...
and probably even K8L

if the e6300 is much cheaper, by like $20 or more id get that though, just because their performance is so similar. in fact i'd get the 4400+ and overclock it lol..

Could some try to explain why the Core 2 duo would be better then the x2 4600 ? I'm still kinda confused.....sorry i dont know to much about this.
