However, 6400+ performed very well in 3dmark and PC mark. But who cares ?? Would someone buy 6400+ just to get high scores in 3dmark and PC mark ?

Perharps for that it being the next generation dual core processor and "limited black edition" which probably appeals to some, for sure. I was also quite a little impressed with it when it was just launched.
Although I would only personally compare it to the intel E6850 processor.

What about E6550, it is around 6000+ price and it performs on par with it. But the E6550 can overclock much better.

I say 200 points more in 3DMark06 and $10 less is the better value, but it all comes down to whether your an AMD or Intel fan.

Higher score in 3dmark does NOT mean that the processor is better

In real world applications, it seems that E6550 is even better than 6000+ according to anandtech

In media encoding, E6550 outperformed 6000+ in all benchmarks
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/intel/showdoc.aspx?i=3038&p=12

In 3d rendering, E6550 won in 2 tests and 6000+ won in 3 tests
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/intel/showdoc.aspx?i=3038&p=13

In Photo Processing, E6550 outperformed 6000+
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/intel/showdoc.aspx?i=3038&p=14

In gaming, E6550 won half of the tests and 6000+ won the other half
http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/intel/showdoc.aspx?i=3038&p=15

6000+ get higher score in 3dmarks but who cares ? Would you buy 6000+ just to get high score in 3dmark ??!!

In real world applications it seems that E6550 was better most of the time

And stock performance is not everything, E6550 overclocks way much better than 6000+, produce less heat and consume less power

according to the reviews the 6400 has unlocked multiplier and can clocked to 3.8ghz.

Doesnt matter if it unlocked or not, bet its the same as the 5600 and 6000 and wont clock any better, same core and stepping. If anybody buys one for that price when you can get a 6000 for 169 they have more money than sense.
