New guy here. Wondering which processor would be best for me...AMD Athlon 64 X2 or Intel Core 2 Duo? I'm planning on using this new computer for web surfing, burning video from my digital camera to DVD, a little gaming I suppose (haven't really got into that yet). I've been looking at a HP A1630N with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ and the HP A1640N with an Intel Core 2 Duo E6300.

More up to date? Not really....The X2s use a newer socket....

Up to date has nothing to do with it. The C2Ds are just better.

I don't know about all of these intel junkies. Personally I would go for the X2 from Athlon. :)

You can't find nice motherboards for core 2 duos. yes, I just said it. :P

Nvidia 600 Series mobos

I disagree with Nvidia releasing the 600 series for Intel chips. The 680i is smoking in terms of performance and overclocking. My P5B rocks as well. But the new 680i series is getting rave reviews and seems to be on track to a hot seller.

Thanks all for the replys.
Holyjunk125, I'm afraid to build my own. I'd probably burn down the house if I tried that!! :-)

I'm still leaning toward the two I mentioned in my first post. They are bascially the same except for the two different processors. And the one with the AMD Athlon 64 X2 is $100 cheaper.
