I purchased a mobo from newegg.com, a Foxcon almost 6 months ago and never got around to purchasing a processor to go with it. I plan to be using my comp for heavy 3d editing, gaming and a lightly used gaming server.I am thinking possibly a AMD Opteron 180 Denmark 2.4GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Dual Core or a AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ 1MB 2.2ghz dual core.

If I do end up getting a athlon 64 x2 I would throw on liquid cooling and over clock the h** out of it to about 2.9ghz. But if I were to get an Opteron I'm not sure if I should. any suggestions would be nice.

Set up

Areo cool case
6900 geforce sli gcard (possibly adding a 7600 geforce sli)
2 gigs of xms corsair RAM
raptor 80gb hard drive
320 gb slave hard drive
two 6in fans and one 4in fan
400 watt ps

I know it suxs

The FX60 is the one dual cored model in the gaming line of cpus for the 939 boards. The stickys here are a little out dated for a gaming build but point at the 4200+ X2 as one model in the X2 line up. For ocing an Opteron you will have to look at the Opty 165 getting the best reviews there. The Opteron line is geared more towards server not gaming cases there. For really loading a cpu with 3D editing and other taxing loads ocing wouldn't see the best results. You will want the cpu used to be optimum for mutlitasking. Once you start ocing cpus with lighter loads seen with most games you have already stressed the hardware there.
