SAN JOSE, Calif. - Intel Corp. pushed price cuts and rebates on computer sellers in exchange for exclusionary contracts and punished those that used competing microprocessors, rival Advanced Micro Devices Inc. claims in a lawsuit against the world's leading chip maker. The industry underdog says 38 companies including Dell Inc., Sony Corp. and Hewlett-Packard Co. were strong-armed into buying Intel rather than AMD chips. The bullying also affected distributors and retailers like Office Depot and Fry's, AMD contends.

Offering cheaper prices and rebates for someone/a company to use your stuff instead of someone elses, its called competition, virtually every company does it. AMD just can't handle the cost of production and are trying to make intel pay because they can (yes I know I glazed it but I like to argue :P). And doesn't HP use AMD processors?

Haha

True to a certain extent. However, although it is naturally competition, I would classify it as unfair competition as the weaker of the two (AMD) does not have the resources such as those of Intel at disposal. I believe that AMD will win on the basis on the numerous antitrust laws. I see this as misuse of ones superior position with the aim to limit the success of competition through unfair business practices.

Yes but if one has the resources one should use them. If a company can offer an inexpensive product shoud they then price it higher as to be 'fair' to someone else? I don't think so. Why stop there? Why not enforce regulations on the arcitecture of a CPU so that one company doesn't have a CPU that performs much better then the other companies?

Lol

Oh well....I would see it comparable to the EU edition of the Windows XP OS which can no longer have Windows Media Player bundled with it. The EU took a proper stance on this as to prevent misuse by MS and provided advantages of the weaker compeition, who, because of the sheer size of MS, have few chances even though their products may be superior.
