AMD help please..

I have an older Asus M4A78-E that has an Amd x4 940, what is the best cpu that can be used in this board am2+/am3 to replace this 940

From the CPU support list, it has support all the way up to the Phenom X6 1100. Any AM3 Phenom II will work with it. Needs to have the newest bios update.

Ok, thanks,..does it seem like a worthwhile update, considering the board is older and ddr2 memory..? Looks like I can get the x6 1100 for 189. bucks

Dont really know if it would be worth it or not. The 940 is unlocked and overclocks pretty good. I would not get a Phenom II X4 unless you could get a good deal on a 970, it clocks better then a 955/965. If you want a X6, the 1090 is a better deal if you can find one, alot of places are sold out.
