amd ii x2 260 or amd ii x4 635

i no this may sound like a silly question but im just about to buy one of theys cpus and what do you think i should go for? amd ii x2 260 is clocked at 3.2 mhz with 2mb cache..and the amd ii x4 635 is clocked at 2.9mhz with 2mb cache 512 each core what do you think? thanks
 
what would you mostly be using it for? the 4 core would be better for multitasking. the dual core has a little bit of a speed bump though. but you could probably OC either one.
 
Have you looked at the Phenom II 720 Tri-Core Processor? It has 6 megabytes more of high speed memory on the processor and only one less core than the Athlon II 635 Quad-Core Processor. It is about the same price as the Athlon II 635 as well.
 
What's your price range? It depends on what you need it for too, if you're just browsing the web and doing school homework you'd probably be fine with the x2, but if you're gaming or multitasking I'd get the x4 for sure.
 
The dual core has 1 MB L2 per core (and a higher clock speed). The quad core has .5 MB L2 per core. They will each do certain things better. (The extra speed and L2 per core tend to give the dual core an edge in games, while the quad excels in encoding and other heavily threaded tasks.)

Here's a comparison on Anandtech's Bench: amd ii x2 255 vs. amd ii x4 635 - Be careful to distinguish whether lower or higher is better for each test.

(note: the amd ii x2 260 will perform slightly better than the amd ii x2 255, but they didn't have the 260 available for comparison)
 
At that price point, I would get the Phenom II X2 555BE, unlocked, 6mb. of L3 and the (chance) of unlocking it to a quad. Plus it overclocks better then the other two.
