amd opteron 6100

just found a review on the worlds first 12 core processor hought you guys may want to have a look.
It looks pretty impressive even though it is still on 45 nm with a clock speed of 2.3 Ghz, hyper transport speed has also been increase along with the support for ddr3

what does everyone think could it be a good rival for the higher clocked xeons?

Whats the point of 12 cores when there are almost no software that can take advantage of more than 4?..

If it's cheaper than xeons, yes to a certain extent. if no, then not at all.. I doubt people will prefer this rather than xeons.. I'm not 100% sure..

this is the server market im pretty sure that applications exist that would be able to utilise all 12 cores
price is less than the xeons but as stated in the link we need to wait for the 8 core xeons to compare the two

Octa core for normal users (also known as i8) is also comming.. I think an 8 core xeons will be surperior to AMD's 12 core because of the higher clock's.. Who knows? are there any official specs for the upcoming/new xeons? or the AMD 12-core?

i couldnt find any after it seems that pcpro got the first look, i tried a quick google search but didnt find anything ill see if can find anything later

Yea. i've heard a lot about these CPU's.. But what does people use them for?

The 6 core xeon is basically equal to the 12 core opteron, i saw some benches against eachother, the xeon won a few more, but they both pretty much won an equal amount of benches, they are very close.

When the 8 core xeons come, the 12 core opteron won't stand much a chance.

Although i was very impressed about the wattage, i cant exacly remember the amount im gonna say 115 watts, but dont quote me on that, but i was impressed with that.
