Take a look at CPU 101 Pay close atention to section 2 and section 5 because they deal with the chose between amd and intel.

If you want a quick answer both amd and intel can handle gaming fine but AMD is generally acepted as being better for gaming.

gaming=AMD

office apps and mutlitasking=Intel

not true, amd and intel both perform excellent at gaming, there are just people out there who are in love with AMD and would never choose anything else,so they would say amd. I have an Intel P4 3Ghz w/ HT. I played all the newest games with excellent quality. Tell me a situation where a game could be played on an amd and not on an intel, or that a game ran alot better on an amd over the intel.

There aren't any, an AMD chip however will perform better at the same quality settings (assuming the rest of the system is also as close to the same as possible)

amd or intel

AMD are better for gaming, Intel tend to be better for multitasking and things like video editing

AMD all around the ability to do 2 Floating point calculations per clock cycle makes games run extra fast on an Athlon 64.

Avoid the AMD Athlon XP this doesnt have the powe the 64 does.
