I'm going to build my new computer this summer, i got my whole list ready, except for the Graphic Card and the Processor.

I was going to buy the ATI Radeon x1950 Pro 512mb with 2x 1024mb RAM but i heard it wasn't DirectX 10 compatible...

and i play lots of games on my pc, so for best graphic, i thought it should be DirectX 10 compatible.

And for the Processor, i was going to buy the Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 that has 2.40GHz / 4MB Cache / 1066MHz FSB / Conroe / Dual-Core / Socket 775 / Processor with Fan.

I don't know which is better, AMD or Intel...

Can you guys give some advice or show me parts that are better and i should buy, and not too expensive parts please (around 1500$ max).

If you guys need to know the other parts i'm going to buy (example: Motherboard or any) to know if it's compatible with it, just tell me.

Currently Intel is better than AMD, so if you're building now, go with the core 2 duo.

As for graphics cards, if you want DX10, you can either get the 8800GTS/X right now, or wait for the cheaper 8600 GT/Ultra which should come out in a month or so. Or, you can wait for the R600 which is going to be very expensive.

well those are pretty fundemental choices dont you think, plus mobo choice is dependent on those things. Maybe you should tell us what you need from a machine, and then tell us you budget :)

The only review seen on the comparison between a Core 2 Dou E6600 and an AMD Socket AM2 4600+ X2 2.4ghz cpu was where the C2 was on an Intel board while the AMD model was installed on a low end make board. Obviously an Intel cpu on an Intel board is going to look better. Reviews often "favor" one side or the other and are often too biased. Plus between AMD and Intel cpus a different board would be needed for each.

The word on a new line of AMD-ATI cards places the R500 and R600(mobile) lineup cards as those that kick the latest NVidia 8800 as well as X1950 ATI models out of the arena. These will be DX10 cards as well as the successive NVidia models that will be coming out sooner or later. If you are worried about costs wait awhile before going with Vista. DX 9L is supposed to allow DX10 games to run on XP. DX10 can't? So far no DX10 release found at MS.

should i go with Intel Core 2 Duo Extreme?

i don't know a lot about nVidia, but are the ones you gave me PCI Express, SLI or AGP? and can you give more description or just send me the link, i use www.tigerdirect.ca, which is Canada, you can try and search the product and give me the link, i am going to buy my computer parts from that website.

does the socket of the motherboard matter? i wanted to check if it was compatible with the video cards. which is better, Asus or BFG?

How can you know that the new ATI will kick 8 series out of the arena

can you give some links where it says that ?

First of all, DX9.0L has been renamed to DX9.0Ex

Second of all, DX9.0Ex will not be on XP.
DX9.0Ex will be on Vista and it will allow DX9 or older games to run Vista

I,m telling ya I have the 4600 and the E6600 will womp it no matter what board your running, The 4600 X2 AM2 is more along the line of the E6400 not overclocked

That ^^ was very old and it was a fake

Where it says that will kick the 8 series out of the arena ?

Edit: and Just look at these benchmarks, the R600 beats 8800GTX just by a small margin

Also the R600 will be priced higher, so please don't come and say a fake information. The 8800 will still be competitor after R600 comes out

It's most likely that the R600 will outperform the 8800, but what, it comes out like 4 months after the 8800?

And the Inquirer is not a trusted source :)

As omega said, the Inquirer is not a trusted source

Just look at the websites that I posted, they are more trusted sources

You are saying that directX9.0L will allow directx10 games to run on XP !!! thats very silly because everyone knows that XP will not be able to run DX10

And as I said directX9.0L was renamed to directX9.0Ex, and it will be available only on Vista

If they want to run DX10 games on XP they will just emulate is.
But it will not actually support it.
