What would be the better choice for a dual core cpu, AMD or Intel?? This will be used for mostly video and intense photo editing, and of course the usual stuff.

i would say AMD for gaming. but i think intel is better for the stuff you listed.

If you do a lot of gaming then AMD is the way. If you have to run alot of office or multimedia type software then Intel is better.

Not for the dual-cores. The AMD X2 series outperforms the Pentium D series at anything you can throw at it.

Thanks for your help! Intel may be better for my aps, however I'm an AMD fan, and I'll probably still go the AMD route. Right now I'm using an AMD thunderbird classic 800mhz, way beyond retirement, however she's still going strong, slower than ****, but still running. I need to upgrade, however funds was an issue, for there were too many other things to buy. :)

So you recommend ASUS for the mobo? Are they reliable? Or more reliable than the others? Seems to me, they're a lot more expensive than others. And I like Antec myself, I have 2 of their cases, worked awesome for me.

Thats generally the rule of thumb for single cores, but the AMD X2 is by far the best dual core, in fact it even beats the P4 EE in some tests.

Well ya the X2 series is cheaper then the Pentium 4 EE series, but its not cheaper than the Pentium D series.

Pretty much everything is cheaper than the EEs. (I am not sure about the FXs) because they are way overpriced.
Here is a price/performance chart for AMD and Intel dual cores/EEs
