My P4 3Ghz idled around 45C-50C, thats why i like AMD's, they run much cooler.
 
i think on this build up im doin i have decided to go with a p4 3.4ghrz HT and 64bit suppport..... and im gonna try watercooling
 
I'm currently using Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz (well duh, its on your sig) but I'm thinking of jumping ship to AMD on my next build. Something like AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4400+ Socket 939 maybe.
 
the only problem that a mate of mine had was with every EA game he had to get cracks to get them working
 
do you know of a good board for the LGA 775, and id kinda like to use the new DDR2 ram, and also have 3 or more pci slots and maybe a 8x/4x AGP slot


im looking for a good LOOKING board, also very CUSTOMIZABLE, and GOOD QUALITY but dont wanna spend over 300 on a mobo
 
ive nevr messed with dual core before would it be plug n play?

or would i have to do a bunch of stuff to get it running?

Its just like any other cpu, just connect it and go.
 
get dual core AMD 3800+. if your worried about it bottlenecking your $300 video card, overclock it 200mhz and it will do just fine. also, amd dual core is faster than intel dual core, and uses less electricity.
seeing as most people do not have a $300 video card dual core AMD will be the best for video editing in my opinion. if you really wanna drop some cash get a dual processor mobo, with two dual core opterons. that should be like instant video editing. oh, also for video editing, get a western digital raptor and more ram.

I saw some benchmarks a while ago, and the AMD X2 beat the Intel's EE and Pentium D at video editing.

Not faster but they generally perform better, at a higher price.

Now theres a real waste of money, besides Raptors are tiny drives and not exactly what you'd want for video editing... Check out the bigger drives with 16MB cache.

thats right, the mobo supports 24gb of RAM...
 
of course... nobody has that kind of money so it doesnt matter...
haha $640 for the video card... $220 for mobo... ALOT depending on which opteron you get.... basically a ridiculous amount of money...
 
also, a western digital raptor IS good for video editing, my friend owns two... video editing involves alot of reading and writing from the hard drive, and if you put two in RAID ... or even 4 then it will speed up video editing 2-3fold.
Faster RPM> slower RPM
what would really be nice is a 10,000rpm Sata2 hard drive. that would REALLY be good for video editing.
