AMD Overclocking Troubles

I've been tweaking my bios alot in the past few days, mainly overclocking my CPU (comp in sig). stock is 2.6Ghz, im just under 2.9Ghz right now without touching voltages. the current settings are as follows:

Core Speed: 2898 MHz
Multiplier: 13.0
HT BUS: 223 MHz
HT Link: 2230MHz
NB Frequency: 2230MHz

My question/problem is at this point i tried lowering the NB Multiplier from 10x to 9x in order to keep the frequency closer to 2000MHz (i read that it should stay close to stock speeds). But it didn't lower it which i realized was because it automatically gets set to the same speed as the HT Link if it is lower. So in the Bios i saw the HT Frequency which i set to 2GHz and rebooted but both the HT Link and NB Freq. remained at 2230MHz.

i don't see any other options in the bios which would help me either. I play on stopping at about where i am right now (2.9GHz), maybe doing up to 3.0 if i can. I just want to lower my HT Link because I've read in several places its unnecessary to increase it to much and could cause problems or decrease in part life.

Wait so let me just get this problem in my head?

You want to lower the Multiplier and raise your NB Frequency?

What exactly did you read saying that you need to stay close to stock speeds? That just defeats the concept of OC'ing all together. By the way there isnt actually any full proof that OC'ing reduces the life of the processor.

no i wanted to lower mt HT Link frequency, which also means i have to lower my NB-CPU Frequency. the purpose of lowering them from what i read off of multiple sources is to keep it stable.

but that's also a reason i was posting here, trying to get some more opinions on what should be set at what. I've read that it should be higher, lower and kept at stock so im lost. I figured out how to lower both the CPU-NB and HT Link to 2007MHz yeserday.
