AMD Phenom II x4 Temperature

Hello everyone,

I have an AMD Phenom II Quad Core 3.2 ghtz processor, and I'm a bit worried about the temperature. When it isn't doing anything, the temperature is at 54 C, and I was playing Skyrim tonight, and it reached 64 C. Now, AMD says the maximum temperature it should get to is 62. Should I be worried? When I was building the computer, I kind of smudged up the thermal paste, and I just bought more to put on. Do you think I damaged my processor?

You probably have not damaged it much if at all. Take off the heatsink clean all of the thermal paste off of both the heatsink and CPU with rubbing alcohol. When you remount the heatsink use only a small dot of thermal paste. 2 grains of uncooked rice is the measurement I usually hear. Place the heatsink on the CPU and let it spread out by itself.

What cooler are you using?

what he said. Those are terrible temps, my 960t which is overclocked to 3.3ghz idles low to mid 30's and i haven't benched it recently to see max but in game it doesn't get too hot but i'm not playing many intense games.

Stock AMD coolers are rediculously crap. I recommend looking into a good CoolerMaster or Arctic Freezer cooler, along with some AS5 thermal paste.

Just I like to know, how do you measure temperatures of a CPU? I am using the same one, and have no idea how to find out at what temp. it is running. (It is using the stock cooler)

StrangleHold - Thanks! Downloaded Prgrm. According to it CPU is running at 24 degrees, so it seems to be OK with the stock cooler. (no OC used)

24°? What's the temperature of the room?
At idle in a 25°c room, my Athlon II X4 idles at 30°. Full sustained 100% load on all cores has a temp of about 48°c. If the room temp goes up to 30-33°, the full load temp will go up to 52°.
Stock AMD cooler, no OC.

Maybe you're reading the wrong temperature. Virtually everything in a PC has a temperature measurement device of some sort.
I would suggest HWMonitor. Same company, but dedicated only to measure temps, voltages and fan RPMs.
I'm unfamiliar with PC Wizard, but in HWMonitor it's pretty clear which is the correct one to read. (Remember, most software shows temperature for each core, ie having a quad core shows 4 different temps)

Jiniix - I did as you suggested, tnx, it is a nice program!. Temp is the same as I read before with the other program, 75F for every core. (Where do I get that little circle "degree symbol" ?)

BTW What are the Tmpin0 and Tmpin2 readings? They are both 93F, rather high!

PC-Wizard is a more eleborate program, it gives you information on a choice of different aspects of your computer, not just tempratures of the different parts, but also data on the components your system consists off. ( such as what processor you are using, the amount of memory, what Ports you have, etc.)
