ARE THEY GOOD, i mean i know they arent as good as intels quads, but im an AMD fan. should i get one or wait ?

NOOOOOOO

Aziek just said in a confusing way.

The AMD Phenoms are definetely quad core. The before mention 'tri core' is what AMD is coming out with soon (they already have it???). IDK about it being better or anything but it maybe. If i were u, i wouldnt buy one just yet. There might be a price drop coming when the TRI cores are released.

Any help?

it is rumored that the tri cores are just quad cores with a defective core. the phenoms are definitely not bad CPUs, but as the OP said, you get more for your money with intel. if you like AMD and dont mind spending the money then go for it, but if you want a good price/performance ratio with AMD, stick with the lower end dual cores.

hmmmm ic ic , ya , im just going to wait for the AMD quad cores to get better, usually first generation are crappy , then theyll improve

You might as well switch to Intel. ;)

AMD processors are not as good performance/price as Intel.

I was an AMD fan myself, but the transition was successful!! :P

You might as well get the quad core as it is not a whole lot more. The Phenom 9850 black edition is only $235 and the X2 6400+ is $163 on Tiger. So $70 more and you could get the quad!

I'm switching to Intel myself this summer. Currently running an X2 6400+ 3.2ghz AMD and will be buying a Intel Q6600 2.4ghz.

On newegg you can get a Q6600 for only $219 and the Phenom 9850 at 2.5ghz is $235, and is rumored to run slower than the Q6600.

Not rumored. It's fact :)

I'm having a hard time finding a motherboard that has 1394(firewire) spot on it-My apollo case has an outlet for it on the front of the case-so I'd like to have it working. That motherboard has them-and I can't afford a lot more than what I have budgeted .
