one thing that was overlooked was drives.
Photoshop uses a scratch disk to handle huge files. Running a single disk can really kill performance since you can only access or write, not at the same time. So I'd either ret a second drive and run a Raid, or just run a second drive dedicated to documents and scratch disk. Keep them on seperate IDE channels or even better, run SATA.
the other suggestion....make sure your RAM bus is matched to your FSB. Keeping them locked at the same frequency helps performance.
