AMD Processor

Hi,
My cooler fan fell off when i knocked it (dont ask me how :S) and off came the processor with it. Tried to put it back on and the pins just bent.

trying to put it back on was a nightmare so i've given up and come to the conclusion i need a new one.

The writing on the chip says AMD ADA3000 aep4ap. Don't know where to look to get another one to be honest (worried i'll buy the wrong one)

Can anyone help - do you need anymore information?

Thanks a lot.

I'll see if I can find some retailers in the UK.

If anyone has any recomendations let me know :)

You do know that you have to pull up the CPU socket lever before the processor will drop in. And as far as the bent pins, you can get a small ended ball point pen and remover the ink cartridge and use the small hole in the end to bent the pins straight

Yes, there was a lever. I don't understand how this came off to be honest, i'm really mad! I'll have another go at fitting it but the fan was a right issue trying to get it back on.

Can anyone point me to a UK retailer?

Thanks so far! :)

That's a rather unfortunate issue! I do recommend you sell that processor as faulty on eBay or something. As for UK Retailers, I recommend:

advancetec.co.uk
Absolutely unbeatable prices and service! As I live in Northern Ireland, shipping is a nightmare, but AT had it over to my house less than 48 hours after I placed the order - and it even arrived at 5PM; now that's service!

overclockers.co.uk
scan.co.uk
Both of these sites are quite competitive on their prices.

ebay.co.uk
As long as you know what you are buying, nothing wrong with eBay!

As stranglehold said, I would try fixing it first. If the pins are just bent, then you might be able to bend them back, however I would use a mechanical pencil (.9mm).

There is one pin that has broken off?!

Can anyone tell me the difference between athlon and semperon?

I just want to make sure i get the right one!

answering your question earlier, semprons are the lowest of the low. my advice??? the way i found my AMD 3400+ (because for some reason they dont have them any more in stores, except for very expensive,) look that up on ebay... here is the whole deal: AMD athlon 3400+ 2.4GHZ venice trust me you will be very happy that you got a 3400 and not a 3200 or something like that. the performance difference is vast

I'm not quite sure which model were on about here, but I've collected a direct link for an AMD Athlon 64/Sempron Socket 754. According to my searches, they don't actually sell your processor any more. This seems odd, but I'm not sure whether thats true or false. Could you just verify how old your pc is please?

The link for the AMD Athlon 64/Sempron Socket 754 is available by clicking here. The unit is about £25 including next day delivery.

lol my provc or his? i already know they dont sell mine... i really have no clue why, because its a GREAT proc... ebay has them for about 30$ though, and thats a great price, considering a sempron 3200 from newegg costs more...

The machine is about 4 years old. Its a HP.

Struggling to find the right processor at the moment. :(

Need it though as no home PC!!!

If anyone finds one an an ebay UK site let me know!

Thanks guys!

ok, so I got the processor and fitted it fine. The PC loads and gets to the Windows XP screen. It looks as though its about to load the profiles but then it just restarts itself. I have tried this time after time.
I have tried to run a repair or even re-install but it just crashes. It crashes loading into safe mode.

Im really annoyed now. Whats the matter? Any idea? Please help!
