AMD promises quad cores by 2007

yea, its gonna be cool and everything but dual core is all i really need, i dont actually ever really use 100% of my cpu resources all the time.
if i needed that, sure it would be amazing though. :)

hehe

Is it just me, or is technology rolling out way faster than the sofware to utilise it? Note that the Opterons are primarily for server use where the advantages of quad core will be felt most..

I hear ya there.

i've noticed that too. the only thing that keeps needing better hardware is gaming and graphics rendering...quadcore cpus (as with the opterons) will make a large difference in servers, but will also be important for workstations and such...

I have to ask myself the same thing that I asked about Quad SLi

Do you really need it?

Dual core right now isn't really even touched by applications now! They are just now starting to mainstream dual-processing (right word choice?) applications

I was rendering a video I captured from the TV today for a DVD and I wished I had at least a duel core then :P Usally though, I don't really NEED it.

im sure by 2007 they'll be plenty of applications utilizing dual core and quad core applications will be just around the corner. Although I dont see quadcore being mainstream for another few years.

There are already plenty of quad threaded programs out.
