AMD Quad FX is out!

I mean really you all, how many thing are for dual core now and look how long its been out!! I think AMD just threw this out there because of the C2D, untill they release their own Quad core!

Given that most people don't upgrade their computers but every 3-4 years, it is pertinent. However, you might be like OMEGA, fade2green, and Kusama who never have the same sig for over 24 hours; then it wouldn't be pertinent.

I've had the same sig for quite a while now, and mine is powered by Cray.

SirKenin, this info i highly relevant to many of us, the poorly names Quad FX lineup (previously 4x4) is aimed at the enthusiast desktop market.... which most people fall into ;)

To be honest imo the platform is far too expensive, the power usage is high, 4 core latencies are mega high meaning for most of us we would see performance decreases over the single core FXs. AMD promised support for there 4-core cpu's on this platform in Q3-4 of 06, meaning they will be the first to offer desktop lineup 8-core options (albeit 4 on each cpu).... this strikes me as a bit of panic offering to tide them over until late 07 when we should see the new architecture… I cant see this being anything special

Ummm guys? I hate to be the party pooper, but why would you even care? The quad core is going to get spanked on the desktop because no games are going to be able to take advantage of it. As far as I know, it's not even a desktop CPU. It targets the corporate market. This "news", to the best of my knowledge, doesn't even apply to you.

Ever heard of Alan Wake? That game supports 4 cores, it utilizes 'em in a smart way. One takes care of audio and level data, one for physics, one to supply the GPU with the data it needs and the fourth can take care of other software running in the background. Perhaps not exactly like that, but from what I've read it's similar to that.

hmmmh... lets spend over 2k on a pc just to play alan wake.. :P ^_^
no seriously,.. at this point its not worth it.. but im pretty sure when dual core pc's or quad core pc's are way more common (I dont know the exact numbers... but i think the majority of people still uses a single core pc) Games will actually require at least 2 cores, so they can split the Physic's calculations etc from the rest. ( what also would be cool is if they would build the onboard sound driver so that its also controlled by 1 core, together with the background applications, that would leave 2 cores left for get game to run of a quad core CPU =] )

yes,.. true i'm just talking jibberish atm,.. but i do cherrish the idea of it :o

Heh. I wouldn't rely on Kyle Bennett as a reliable source of information for anything except HSFs. Especially when his site is full of AMD fanboys.

I guess you know a Intel Fanboys Site:D

Yeah. Dr. Tom Pabst the dentist. AKA Tom's Hardware. Another site to avoid at all costs (although every once in a blue moon I do link to a HDD article or two from there).

While we're at it, why not an nVIDIA fanboy site? Madonion and our buddy Anand over at anandtech.com.
