i'm looking for a good mb to match my athlon 64 x2 4200. i would pick one out, but i'm not really sure what to look for in a mb, and i've read plenty of mb write-ups. my budget is $75-$150, and i dont need video support as i'll be buying a separate video card. thanks for any help.

well first off whats the real difference between am2 and 939? any performance difference? and what exactly is sli? from what i've read, doesn't it allow you to run dual video cards? thanks for the help btw.

AM2 uses DDR2 ram and SLI is a Dual video card set up

i think i'm going to just stick with the 939 for now. but non-sli board would be a good buy? anything else that is similar for the price?

AM2 is the most recent and will have the most upgradeability in the future. There is no reason to stay with socket 939 when AM2 is practically the same price and has better features.

Socket 939 won't be dying out soon.Plus DDR is fine, there is no reason unless you are an extreme and by extreme,i mean XTREME!Gamer.Socket 939 comes in a nice box too :P

I'm talking about a few years down the road when there are AMD X8 8000+ processors and he wants to do a minor upgrade, there will be a lot higher processors than the FX-60 (Socket 939) like (who knows what will come out for AM2 in the next year?)

Both socket AM2 and socket 939 use HyperTransport, though I think some socket AM2 CPU's use a higher HT speed than on socket 939.

It does, if not out of the box, than with a BIOS flash. You'll just flash with one core. It'll probably come with an X2 ready BIOS though.
