AMD vs Intel (again)

So my friend built his comp soon after I made mine. I went AMD b/c I had a lower budget then him and he went Intel. His CPU is 3ghz Dual Core and mine is 2.4ghz Dual Core. I was wondering if I got a 3.2ghz Dual Core AMD Processor, would be close to the performance of his 3ghz? I cant remember what he bought but it seems like this one:

The one I'm thinking about is:

Intel has higher cache which is what I'm worried about. I was wondering if I should just give up on AMD and go Intel before I put more money into the sink. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

it really depends,i really dont go by benchmarks.its realworld you have to consider, i mean are you having any problems running anything on your machine? if not i would just upgrade and save some cash.x2 6000+ or Phenom unless you really just wanna build a new machine (like me):D then knock yourself out i would recommend E8400 CPU but i really dont know what you use your machine for...more info would be great..

I use my PC for gaming. My current config allows me to max out ever game I play though lately I have been having low frames on some UT3 maps (low 30s, high 20s) idk if its my CPU, Ram, or GPU. In Windows Vista experience my 9600gt doesnt seem to be the problem. My ram and CPU are at 5.1 and 5.2 but I don't want to trust Vista on anything. My CPU is:

What grafics card do you have.

It will get similar performance based on raw CPU power, but the Intel CPUs are better

Just stay with your rig, and the upgrade later

Update you GFX card (cause usually ppl get frames in the 100s with UT3)

E6850 is much faster than 6400+. Actually, the 6400+ can't even beat E7200

Anyway, I recommend E8400 over E6850 because it is better and around the same price

If he did buy a Core 2 Duo at 3GHz and not a Pentium D, then unfortunately a 3.2GHz AMD X2 will not outperform it.

You can get the MSI one for the same price after MIR

But I heard good things about Biostar P43 and P45, they are much better than the P35 Biostar.

in my experience the singe core amds are better than pentiums and pentium Ds, the core2s are better than X2s, and the core2 and the phenom are about the same.

So you want to spend more money just to match his performance? I see that pretty pointless... it could be spend more wisely

Getting Intel will get you alot more for your money, but if your not willing to spend alot on an upgrade. Then get the 6400+, they are fast, i had my X2 5600+ at 3.3Ghz. In normal tasks, i couldn't notice a difference over my E8400 at stock.

Get the amd 6000+ x2 processor. A bit cheaper. You won't notice a difference between that one and the 6400. However, i have the 6000, and i have some major heating problems with it. I've heard that you wouldn't notice a difference between the 6000 and 5600.

As I said in my previous post, the AMD 6400+ doesn't beat the cheaper E7200. Also, the E7200 consume less power and produce much less heat. Please check this review. So, if you don't have the money for E8400 then get E7200

This what I suggest

EDIT: And the E7200 will drop to $113 on Monday

Yeah, you would see a difference. If you don't want to dump a ton of money in for a new computer, that would be a good upgrade.
