AMD VS INTEL CPU question

My next build will probably be a core2 duo 2.2ghz and overclock it to like 3 or something(debating maybe a athlon 64 5000+ black edition but probably not), but I don't see what people have against amd, one of our other desktops has a athlon 64...etc etc in it and it seems to run great. Its a good computer. I have a cheepo laptop that runs awesome for what it does, with a sempron in it. As far as overclocking we all know the architecture of intels are better.

Possibly yes... But if Intel is the only CPU company left, it's not gonna be good for us

Keep in mind there are other companies out there that make CPU's. AMD and Intel simply split 99% of the market. If one of them went out of business, I'm certain one of the smaller companies would take that opportunity to go for the jugular and try to bring themselves up a few ranks.
