AMD vs Intel dual core?

which would be better for running multiple programs?

Many will actually tell you that intel is slightly more efficient than amd in multitasking although personally I don't think amd is that bad either if you are into turion64X2 dual core notebooks.
Still, it may be a good idea to go with intel, especially for notebooks.

Basically, Intel's cpu's are far and away better structured than AMD's and thus are far better. AMD was beating Intel's low-end cpu's on price to price comparissons, but that isn't the case any more because of Intel's price cut last month.

The Intel Core 2 Duo's are more efficient per clock, and would most likely be your best bet. Although AMD is still a great processor.

AMD just slashed their prices too, last week. I go to Tom's Hardware for benchmarking charts. That link is to their mobile CPU charts. I admittedly don't know much about m-cpu's.
