AMD vs Intel

Both computers will have the same memory, power supply, etc. But using these processors and video cards, is one mix better performing than the other? If so, how much better would one be?

for gaming the first will perform much better because of a substantially better video card.

In non-graphically-intensive usage both would perform similarly because the processors are very similar in performance.

Because of that, I'd go for the AMD build because of the better performance in games, however, if you can upgrade the video card in the Intel system to the same card, I'd probably say intel, because overclocking to 3.4 (the same as the 965) would give better performance than the 965 gives at those speeds
 
Well, first of all these setups are quite different as far as price goes. With the Intel setup you're looking at roughly $420 and with the AMD setup you're looking at roughly $350.

I'd personally go with that AMD + 5770 route. You'll save a few bucks, the 5770 has DirectX11 and is a better card than the 250.

How about i5 750 + 5770?

Anyway, for you list
You won't need 1000W PSU, Phenom II x4 965 + 5770, 650W PSU is more than enough
