AMD VS p4

I remember reading a couple topics and it was stated that a 3200 was like a 3.2ghz intell sor thats amd 2.0 to intell 3.2

Its really hard to say. Knowing the Ghz comparison means absolutely nothing. AMD and Intel processors are for totally different things and just because one has higher Ghz, it doesnt mean its better.

Yes a 3200 amd is = to a 3.2 ghz pentium. The amd only has to run at 2.0 ghz to compare really. But amd does run hotter but thats what fans are for ;)

You dont know how wrong you are.

As bob said, you cant compare it that way. Ghz dont mean crap these days, it varies greatly between CPU's. You can really only compare different AMD cpus and different Intel CPU's, you cant compare both of them.

And AMD's generally run cooler, i dont know why you said they run hotter.

Thx for correcting me... But the heat part at my college has been proven. Amd in 10 out of 10 runs hotter. I have had 2 intels and 2 amd's and both amds have taken the cake.

What specific chips were you using? I don't know about recent chips, but in the past Intels have been notoriously hot.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Manchester 2000MHz HT 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Dual Core Processor

AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 2000MHz HT 1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor

Intel Pentium 4 630 Prescott 800MHz FSB 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 EM64T Processor

Intel Pentium 4 650 Prescott 800MHz FSB 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 EM64T Processor

Then we went a little older and same results

OK, the LGA 775 processors brought the heat problems down from the original 478 Pressy. I believe it. Stock coolers?

Yes stock coolers but when we did start messing with the coolers the intels work a lot better and went cooler... Not as cool as the amds but much much better.

Why were you comparing new AMD's to older P4's is my question :P and not to mention your statment was AMDs run hotter, which plently of AMD chips run much cooler, to gneralized statment. My Duron only goes a couple degrees above room tempatrue.

We werent going new amd vs old intel's... We tested the cpu's by when they came out.

you have stock coolers??? your computer completely normal parts or do you have high end parts?

It really depends on what your doing with the computer.. All the test where going through were a Heavy test and at idle.

Right this is just mainly up to u. intel and amd are really both really good so its just what people like and what they want to do with them.
