AMD X2 3800 or Intel D 940?

I am helping my friend put a computer together and unlike me he doesn't have a big budget. But the main question is what processor should he buy? The intel D 940 or AMD X2 3800.
The X2 3800 cost more has only 1 mb cache and runs at 2000 mhz
The Intel D 940 cost less, has 4 mb cache and runs at 3200mhz

If you look at this it would seem that Intel D 940 is better but i heard somewhere that Amd is better for gaming.

PS.: my friend want's to play heavy games on it

Yes, how much would it be possible on stock cooling and without extra voltage?
Depends on the chip and the specific hardware, no one can say for sure.

If money isnt an issue, i'd go with the X2 3800+.

so ok the X2 3800 is a better processor, but is it the best choice?
The two possible setups are:

X2 3800
Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe
2gb ddr pc3200 400mhz cas:2
xfx 7900gt
2x maxtor 250gb (sata 2/300)

or

Intel D 940
Asus P5N32-SLI Deluxe
2bg ddr2 pc5400 675mhz
xfx 7900gt
2x maxtor 250gb (sata 2/300)

the only difference would be that the Intel system has a faster ram memory than the AMD system? Between those two setups which should he choose?

The AMD box would perform better when gaming. :)

YEAH RIGHT

and btw
why deluxe ?
how much is the differnce between the deluxe and the standard ?
you can use the money for something else

What else could he use the money for? Once you get a system of that caliber, 20~$ isn't going to go to anything more useful.

Yes, go with the AMD. You can't just compare an AMD to Intel chip using GHZ and cache sizes alone since AMD's CPUs uses its GHZ much more effectively than Intel's CPUs do.

ok, get the X2 3800+... mine hit 2.4ghz without overvolting it at all 24+hrs dual prime stable!
amazing chip! GET IT! lol
if you can save enough money by getting the Pentium D IN ORDER TO GET A BETTER VIDEO CARD then do so tho.
either way, consult us on what you plan on building the system before you buy something for it.
if you can stretch it, get the X2 3800+ an Asus A8n deluxe or whatever, x1800xt 512mb... or 7600gt if you can't afford that.
if i had to decide between Pentium d w/ x1800xt 512mb or X2 3800+ w/ 7600gt, i'd MUCH rather the X1800xt 512mb
it all comes down to where you spent the money... if its a gaming system, spend more on the video card.
btw, the x1800xt isn't an AMAZING video card, but the 512mb will allow it to last much longer than most video cards selling nowadays.
also make sure you put 2x1gb sticks of ram in there, no slacking allowed! lol
