AMD X2 VS Pentium D

what would you say is an all round proccessor, no actually more powerfull and also what about when the pentium d 955 comes out with Extreme edition(ht) you think that will beat the 4800 or the fx-60

As far as best overall processor, I would have to go with AMD. The new 955ee beats out those AMD chips in some benchmarks but not enough to say it's better.

yea, amd dual core = win for ANYTHING.
i cut my processing time of encoding a video down from 1hr. 50mins (athlon 64 3400+ clawhammer) to 55 mins (amd athlon 64 x2 3800 @ 2.4ghz)
its by far the best in my opinion

With my dual core setup, that's all it takes me to encode a dvd too, less than an hour. But I'm sure yours would show superior when we try to do stuff I don't do, like gaming.

srry but i have to say the EE955 spanks FX-60, me and couple buddies of mine wanted to find out our selves just this weekend, took ones guys pc with a 955 and another guys with FX-60, put both ddr pc 4200 in them both, both had 7200rpm hdd's, and were really close in specs besides cpus, and the 955 walked on it neither of them overclocked....and i haev to say now that the 955 is a 65nm processing their have been past 5ghrz overclocking records with the 955, with correct cooling that is

i have 920 right now and will be getting a 955 most definetly, over getting a amd system

theirs actually lots out their who have witnessed what i have.... if you read reviews you will see that the EE955 is walkin on amd's cpus that are more close to the EE955

AMD dual cores beat out all intel Pentium D's and EE in everything. including encoding and multitasking. ecspecially gaming.

I think the X2 3800 is a very nice chip, with a nice price/performance ratio and sweet o/clockability.

It does in some tasks, at least the X2 4800+ from what I've seen.

Have a look at the Presler EE 955.

Here's a link to some benchmarks comparing the 955ee and the fx-60
http://techreport.com/reviews/2006q1/fx60-vs-955xe/index.x?pg=1 Needless to say, the Pentium gets spanked. I too have an Intel, but I know when I'm beat.

I tend to agree. I've seen several reviews comparing the FX60 with the EE955, from sources I trust to be unbiased, and all have favoured the FX60. It's a tad cheaper as well, but at this price range I don't think a hundred dollars either way is likely to make a big difference to most people.
