I'm thinking of getting an AMD CPU, I'm not sure about the 64 bit version because WinXP 62 bit has compatibility problems (as I've heard) I want a 32 bit one, which one shall I get, but please, reasonable prices.

PRetty much all AMD processors are 64-bit compatible. They do work with all versions of Windows, no compatibility problems. I'm using Windows Xp and i have a computer with XP 64-bit and Server 2003 all on AMd with no problems.

shall I get Sempron or Athlon?

Also how do I put it onto my mobo, is it like a card that clips on?

it make NO difference to perfomance. Dont worry.

those are beginning to disappear. Only old stuff like your modem(s) and few non big name companies dont offer there drivers in 64 bit now

well you'll need a new motherboard so let take care of that first

A 64 bit cpu runs perfectly fine on a 32bit OS. The only function it loses is the ability to run apps in 64bit format.

As for the Sempron 3100+, in terms of gaming it very well may be better than yours. It depends on the mobo you get though.

Maybe, but I don't think it would be worth the upgrade. Unless you're looking at the Athlon 64 or X2 range, you're better off to stick with what you have (unless of course you have some pressing reason to sell).

If your looking for bundles you might try Here They have the MOBOs and CPUs together for compatibility and price range. I really wouldent mess with a 32bit, there are plenty of reasonably priced athlon 64s out there.
