i have an amd athlon xp 3200+
with the stock h/sink and fan it was idle at 50C most of the time.
now with a thermaltake volcano on there it doesnt run much cooler. and the fan makes a hell of a noise.
i keep the fan turned down to half but it still idles 45-50C
case temperature is 30C apparently. i dont know how accurate these temperatures are (not very i'd imagine as the cpu temp reported is not the core temp) i dont know what to do with it. i dont want loud fans but would rather it not reset on me either.

45 ~ 50C isn't bad. But if you're that worried, get a better HSF with a larger fan, such as a 120mm. It'll push adequate air at lower RPMs, thus less noise. Also try silicon dampeners for your case fans. That's what I did and it helped quite a bit.

I have an Arctic Freezer 64(I beleive that's what it was called) It's not too expensive(about $40) and does a great job with my 4000+. It's really quiet too. To be a smaller fan, you certainlly don't hear it. Only problem is it's an odd setup so if anything is to happen to it, you can't just replace the fan, as with most other HS's
