An Unsolicited Personal Endorsement for buying Computers Off Ubid

With great trepidation I bought a computer off UBID which is a poor mans Ebay & so far its been a great deal for me. I've basically given up on buying computers off Ebay because the prices are too high in comparison to what I can buy in a retail store. I mean, I'm not going to buy something for $500 from someone on Ebay to save $50 and/or not have a warranty besides. This includes Buy it Now items. Apparently some people buy things on Ebay at not much savings just because they feel like a winner for winning the auction no matter that they didn't save much. Now I'm not putting down Ebay- I use it mainly to get things I can't find in stores any more including computers with XP. Every once in a while someone does wind up with a bargain.

Anyway, UBID has some ridiculously low priced items with 90 day warranties from the manufacturer that they have multiple amounts of and the sell both as Buy it Now type items and auction items at the same time. In other words they might have say 10 Toshiba laptops and you can buy one straight up for $300 or bid on it & get it for less.

I got a Gateway Core 2 Factory Refurbished Desktop with speakers & a mouse completely loaded (GT 5238E) for around $350 including shipping with a 90 day Gateway warranty & an option of a further warranty from another company. Of course when it arrived it was DOA but I contacted Gateway who has excellent customer service & I shipped it back for free & they fixed it & returned it within a week & it works great.

I'd recommend anyone take a look at UBID if for nothing else then to browse.
