Analog vs DVI?

Hi everyone, this is my first post so if I sound like a bit of a noob please forgive me :) ... Anyway, here is my dilemma: I am considering purchasing an LG L1719S 19' LCD monitor for about $150 CDN. Now the monitor is analog only but has a 1400:1 contrast ratio and 8ms. I am getting an AMAZING Deal on the monitor. Now, I could either get this monitor or a monitor with dvi inputs with say about a 700:1 contrast ratio and 8ms as well for about $40 more. I'm wondering what you guys think in terms of tradeoff, should I go for the cheaper and better quality analog picture model because 1400:1 contrast is a huge difference between 700:1, or should I get the 700:1 dvi monitor instead which is $40 more? Thanks for your suggestions.

hmm....well, some people say that DVI makes a better picture quality, although, some say not much difference at all... I say get the analog.

see, here's the catch

the monitor with only analog inputs is going to be better suited for use with an analog signal

my viewsonic that only had rgb inputs looked fine with rgb, but my sceptres which have both don't look so good while using analog.

the difference between analog and digital varies between monitors, and the quality of the analog to digital converters inside the monitor.

digital has the benefit of avoiding d/a and a/d conversion altogether, insuring you a more consistent picture, regardless of hardware components.

it's up to you, but i'd probably just go for the better price.

heyman421 - I've been wondering about that... I mean, I know there is a difference when using digital or analog because it doesn't need to auto-adjust when using DVI. However, I can't tell any difference in quality what-so-ever... Perhaps it's just my monitor :P

another thing i'll point out is that with an analog signal, the choice of cables is more crucial. theres a big difference in quality with a cheap vga cable vs. a good vga cable.

so if you go the analog route, it may be wise to invest in a nice beefy cable to ensure the best performance.

it most likely just has a really nice a/d converter

with a cheaper monitor (such as mine) i would suggest only using digital

but of course with nicer monitors, it's a moot point
