And I'm retarded... Windows question

BLUF : Everytime I try to open a drive (C or D drive from My Computer) a command dialog opens (cmd.exe) to that drive instead of opening the folder through Windows Explorer. WTF?

I was trying to change the icons on my computer, so I went about the normal (I'm assuming they are the normal ways) and changed my desktop icons through desktop settings and some file icons through the folder options. And now when I try to open the C or D drive, I instead get a dos window directed that respective folder. Does anybody know what the deal is?

Thanks for your sarcastic comments or help although the latter is actually appreciated.

People in here generally don't do sarcastic comments to people who have a serious problem. I will just say though, admitting you're retarded is half way towards being cured (or is that alcoholics, I forget...) :P

Anyway, I have never come across the problem you're facing. And I'm a bit confused as to what you were doing when the problem occured. What exactly were you trying to do in changing the icons? Alter the icon pictures in My Computer? Also, which Windows version are you using? I assume XP?

The obvious thing to suggest would be to use System Restore to roll your pc back to before when the problems occured. I'll try and find out a bit more about what you're facing just in case that doesn't work.

Edit: I've had a quick search. Basically it seems you must have altered the action for the File Types you're having trouble with. Have a quick look at this website for info.

Orginally, I was trying to replace the icons on my desktop (ie. My Documents, My Computer, etc.) to other, fancier ones. After I successfully changed them along with a few normal files icons, the drive would misdirect to openning a command window.

I took a look at the site you said and tried it out but to no avail. So, I used rudementary tactics and did a system restore. No harm done since everything works now. I guess I'll just have to be satisfied with the stock icons. I'm too lazy to go back and change them all again. Maybe on another long, boring night such as tonight was.

Thanks for your help though.
