Animated desktop

is it possinble to have an animated desktop, for example a picture like the original xp backgorund only with shadows moving and it it going dark when it actually goes dark perhaps eve with weather?

Hmmm

Good question. I would also like to have a moving background for my desktop. Perhaps with some cool script effects. I remember I played around with using a .html file as the background, but there were some funny issues with that. If anyone knows, I will also be happy to hear it.

I once had a html file once, and embedded some flash in it, so i got a nice game on there, also i made my name animated once, but that was very annoying, and took a while to load, i suppose if you found a flash file on the net and were connected to the net 24/7 you could find the source of it and use that

I still have a java applet as the desktop on one of my old computers. The applet had a bunch of menus and I could start any application and change a picture for the rest of the background...

It is pretty easy. I created some JMenu's and each JMenuItem had a listener attached to it and I used the static method: getRuntime() to exec each application...

then I started the applet from an html file, set the html file as my background and walla...

I traveled to Thailand a bought a lot of cheap software over there, one of the batch was something called "Moving Desktop". Since then I've filed it away and can't find it. I used it once, it was cool, but it kept my HD running because the files were big. If you have an animated pic on the background and you wanted it clear, you can imagine how big that file must've been. They have all sorts of themes, stuff like puppies, wilderness, flowers and traffic.

i know you can put gif images as a desktop.
only problem i noticed with it is that sometimes after running applications, it tends to run really slowly until you refresh it. and also it sometimes lags the system down.
then again, i guess if you have a decent amount of memory that shouldn't be an issue
