should i get a PSU, not an in-built one?
Definately, but they really don't have a very good selection on psu's at that site so you might be able to get away with it, your comp isn't very high power consuming so you should be good at least for a while. And as long as that cpu is the retail version and has its own heatsink, no need in buying an aftermarket one, core 2's run on low voltages which = lower temps.

I don't think the motherboard supports Core 2 Duo. :P
According to Asus, Core2 support is available for BIOS revision 0901 and later on that board. However, the latest beta BIOS currently available is 0606. Either an error on the Asus site, or support may be available in the future.

Either way, I'd get another board.

A better PSU wouldn't be a bad idea either. BTW, why limit yourself to Centrecom. I've never found them to be particularly well priced.

any other stores you recommend? for stuff ive bought recently centrecom have usually been the same as the competitor and sometimes cheaper. so i should go with with the gigabyte mobo and the SATA 2 HDD?

www.staticice.com.au will search for the best prices on components throughout Australia.

www.msy.com.au is one of the sites i've found to be the cheapest overall.

Both the Gigabyte board and SATA II hard drive would be good choices.

ill probably be getting a new computer in the next few months
If it won't be for a few months, much of this advice will be outdated. Core 2 Duo CPUs and motherboards are still quite new, particularly in Australia.

i hope to have most of my funds by early-mid november. so ill probably port this build agian in a few months and see if any one has any more changes before i make a final decision. thanks

i did a comparison between www.staticice.com.au and the prices on centrecom, the prices were different by less than $5 except the mobo. which was about $20 more expensive than the cheapest one on the site.
