Hey
Im new here and need help connectiing my tv to my laptop. I have a vga to component video cord and my video card has extend desktop, duplicate desktop etc. but everything is scrambled. It is a standard def tv that says it will only except 480i info. I have the resolution to the tv set at 600 - 480 on extended desktop. Maybe my dell inspiron 1500 is sending hi def or something? Im lost.

I'm not running on Windows right now, so this might be confusing and wrong, but if you're using XP, try going to the graphics settings (desktop right click>properties>settings) and going into advanced options. Then click on "list all modes". Try setting a mode that outputs at <60hz. This may not help at all, but it's my best possible suggestion. :)

Standard digital TV (NTSC) is 720x480 but if you are sending an analog signal via VGA you may need to use 640x480 (which is the 4:3 aspect ratio of SDTV). See which works. If you have black side or top bars, or people look excessively fat or skinny, you have it wrong. You will have black top and bottom bars for widescreen broadcasts regardless.
