Ok. So I OC-ed my CPU E6400 to 2.8Ghz without changing the stock cooler. It's running fine but at quite a high temp if under stress (prime95 ran). I know that once when I forgot to put thermal paste the CPU shut down after some minutes of operation. Does that mean that the CPU has an auto shut down function if it over heats and so will not fry? And something else. Could this OC demage other parts of the computer. I don't mind that much if my 3 years old CPU fries however I don't want all the computer parts to fry and ending up having to buy a new comp.
Thanks
