another display not detected

I've added another monitor to my system and after going into screen resolution I get 'another display not detected'.

Was there something on my video card that needed to be switched or what?

Win 7
Radeon 6970 graphics card.

How many monitors do you have connected? If 3 monitors you need to use display port in order to have 3 monitors.
 
Maybe it remembers what you had connected previously? I thought you weren't getting signal on an additional monitor you connected.
 
I'm sorry, I didn't post correctly.
I have one monitor working fine. I just connected another and that is the message
I get after I go to desktop and rt click screen resolution and try to configure the new monitor I want to add.
Sorry about the confusion.
