Another problem thread PC not booting up! :(

ALright guys I finally got all my parts and attempted to put my computer together...
It's not booting up
When I press the power button all it does is start to move the case fans and cpu fan then stops right away and the motherboard has a green and yellow light lit up on the right side by the memory.
Even the power supply fan doesn't move?

Any ideas? :/

Edit: also the power lights on the front of the case light of up for a second then stop...

That MB has a lot of LEDs, but I think their all voltage and temperature - Not diagnostic.

#1 Are you sure when you mounted the MB that you got all 9 standoffs correctly placed and all 9 screws aligned and threaded in?

#2 Have you plugged the case speaker into the MB and checked for a beep code?
 
Could it be a faulty power supply? I would think it could be the hard drives, but usually you would get an error message at the startup screen prior to that.

1:... I think so ? I have nine in there and screwed it all into place should I take back out and retry? Also my power supply only has one 4 pin 12v but by the cpu there is spots for 8 pin?

2: I'm so new to this :( how exactly do I do this?

I was thinking it could be the power supply. Wouldn't at least the fan in the power supply be spinning if it was working? Problem is I have no way of checking without returning it
 
I tried a psu in an old comp and fans and stuff at least worked so I replaced the psu for the 4/8 pin connector by the CPU my power supply only has a 4 pin is that all I need?

No, I wouldn't take the MB out at this point as long as you're reasonably sure you didn't put any extra standoffs in where they don't belong as extras will contact the back of the MB in the wrong place and prevent power up through a MB short.

The 4/8 pin. Most MBs work fine with the 4-pin only. However the i7 is a power hungry 140W CPU. It's possible it needs all 8 pins. Not sure.

The speaker - Your case came with a small speaker.

It plugs in the MB header where the case front panel connectors connect (power on, reset, HDD LED, etc) 2 pins marked speaker. Normal power up it gives one short beep. Abnormal power up it gives beep codes. Series of long and short beeps that can help narrow the problem down.

Ok i'll try it.. now I did replace the antec earthwatt 650w because I thought it wasn't working. I tried an older cooler master (500w) psu and it had fans working and stuff... I put in this new antec and it still does the same thing!!
No idea what i'm doing wrong but I'll try the speaker.

Also on the 24 pin connecter on the coolermaster ever pin has a silver rim inside it. On both the antecs one of the 24 pins is missing that in the same spot. Does that matter at all?

Edit: Put the speaker in there... made sure positive was in the spot so it's connected right...doesn't make any sound. Also I'm pretty sure this power supply only has 1 4pin connecter so do I need another could that be the probleM? :/

ok heres the new update... took the old cooler master 500w psu out of my dads old computer... it also only has a 4 pin but it did boot up and get my a picture on the monitor, but then it just shut down again i'm assuming because it's not enough wattage?? If this is the reason should i just take back this antec (have no idea why it doesnt work?) and get a cooler master 650 or so power supply?
 
It'd be nice to know if that's the problem before you return it, but you probably should be running an EPS PSU with an i7 950 anyway. I think there's a good chance that's the problem.

Well I was actually going to just buy the new one and take back the antec if it works. EPS what does that mean? Can you recommend me a PSU to go and get?

it actually booted up to where it is asking for the windows disk and to press enter...

so just going to buy a different power supply and try it ... I'm really curious as to why the antec is working though? It's own fan doesnt even spin
 
I think EPS stands for Entry-Level Power Supply, (for a server), known as EPS12V specification - Meaning 8-pin 12v connector. Glad to help...If I did...We'll see. :)

I'm setting up windows as we speak!!! :) I bought a Cooler master gx 750w... still no idea why the antec wasnt working!
Question though...
the cpu fan and front case fan are working but cant seem to get the top and rear fans working? Also still have the HD audio and AC97 (what is this for?) connectors from the case to plug in. I don't know where they go.
 
Where do you have the top and rear fans attached, MB headers or molex connectors off the PSU? The audio and AC97 should plug into MB headers. Should be able to verify this in your MB manual. I'm not familiar with AC97 spec though - Don't remember that connection on my recent build.

Yeah I looked in the MB manual but don't see anything about the AC97 hmph..
The only spot on the MB i think the HD audio connection goes is there is one called " F_audio"


What are molex connectors? I don't think I have them attached at the moment. The only way I could think of was the PSU 4 pin connector that fits into the sys_fan2 spot on the bottom of the motherboard but it made it so the computer didnt boot
 
MOLEX connectors are the bigger , (about 1" across), 4 pin power connectors on the end of some of the PSU connectors.

You can verify that the audio is correct by - The header on the MB has two rows of 5 or 6 pins each, but one pin is missing. The HD connector will have a matching missing receptacle.

Plug your other fans into SYS_FAN or CASE_FAN headers on the MB, (but not a PWR_FAN) header. You can then control the fan speeds via BIOS settings. Alternative is to attach to the PWR_FAN header or molex connectors, but fans will run at 100% and you won't be able to set them back for quieter operation unless you buy a separate fan controller.

ok so if i connect the fans to the sys_fan.... then i dont also need oto connect to molex connectors to them? I think thats what i was doing wrong but even with just the molex connectors they werent turning on
