Another vista 32 bit vs 64 bit...

I have read a couple threads that touch on on this topic, but none of them have a clear answer. :confused:

I am building a new computer, and am trying to decide between vista 32 bit or 64 bit (home premium). I am getting an Intel Core 2 duo with a Gigabyte DS3 motherboard, so I know my hardware can do 64 bit.

What I dont understand is if I get the 64 bit version of vista is it backwards
compatible with 32 bit software?, from a previous thread, it looks like some software can work with both, and some only with 32 bit. Will getting the 64 bit version cause me many problems with downloading popular vista compatible software?, should I just go with 32 bit for now?

You should try...

Maybe you just need it's to decide what it's better to you so here we go...

If you have an 64 Bit architecture you would be able to work at higher speed (even than the same OS in a 32 Bit architecture), at this time there's no much software available for you in this architecture, but you would see that this is just a matter of time. All the software companies must work since now in this kind of structure, so don't be worry. You could try Vista 64-Bit and see that it will be stronger than 32.

Otherwise, you could try Windows Vista 32-Bits, it's gonna use half of your processor capacity because it recognize only your processor with a bus of 32-bits (It would work with 32-bits per cycle instead of 64-bits per cycle) so with each cycle your PC could be work at double capacity of process. With this architecture most of the software could be work great in your PC.

I would use 64 bit,

it feels a lot faster than x86 systems, and you will be able to take advantage of x64 apps (when people bother to make them), all x86 apps will also feel faster but some of them may not be compatable

if you have any old hardware which dont have m$ drivers or x64 drives then you will need x86 but try to go for x64(i use 64bit on my servers and all my clients which have x64 cpus have vista enterprise x64 and i would never regret it)
