Another vista thread or? Sp2 beta-windows 7

Lets hope Windows 7 is a surprise add-on to Vista...for free.

I think if its a stand alone...its going to have horrible sales...MS had to have lost a lot of loyalty for charging so much for Vista only to have it widely hated by most. While most of the hate is computer morons it still earned the title to average person.

After dropping even 200 bucks on my Ultimate version I don't plan to be upgrading my OS unless it double performs over Vista.

Also sounds like they are rushing the OS...wasn't its original release like 2010-2012? So who knows what kind of bugs will be in it. They rushed Vista too and look what happened I hated Vista myself till SP1 came out.

Vista was actually long overdue originally code name Longhorn and started back in 2003. Due to an increase being seen in hardware changes they finally reached a point where the requirements were made higher on the final release.

One thing Windows 7 is supposed to see is a totally new file indexing process. This relies on content according to the only article seen to date. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/cc164028.aspx

I'll admit I was a bit stiffled when first seeing the $399- retail tag for Ultimate. But 98SE retail that many years back still saw about $180-$200 then. You have to allow for some expected price increase while that is still quite a bit steep for the most part!

Will 7 turn out better then Vista? 2010 was the first anticipated time frame for the next version. Seeing this latest makes anyone wonder if it simply won't turn out to Vista 2nd Edition seeing some new thrills and eye candy?!

I was under the impression that there wouldn't be another service pack. Can't hurt, I suppose.

I was simply a little surprized seeing it being out this soon while still in beta form however. XP saw it's last with SP3 while Vista is still the latest out presently. But don't forget that XP was out a year after ME when that version flopped!

And here's another little tid bit talking about a newer version being seen out fast. How about the latest build for Win 7?

"Attendees will get a demo of Windows 7 by Windows engineering chief Steven Sinofsky, as well as pre-beta M3 bits to take home. Chief Software Architect Ray Ozzie is on tap to outline Microsoft’s Live Framework, the Live Mesh development platform. Windows Server head Bob Muglia is expected to unveil Microsoft’s cloud development platform and explain how Microsoft plans to try to one-up Amazon and Google in this space — via a combination of its Windows Cloud OS, virtualization and a variety of cloud-optimized services. There are sessions on Microsoft’s Oslo modeling strategy and platform, Silverlight 2 for mobile, parallel/concurrent computing and more."
