Antec P182 Case Fan Question

Hello,

I'm in the midst of building my dream rig. Thus far, I have the case (Antec P182) and the PSU ( Thermaltake toughpower W0117RU ATX12V / EPS12V 750W Power Supply) installed. Last night I discovered that 2 of the 3 case fans have female molex connectors. My PSU doesn't have a single male molex connector. Of course, this annoys me to no end!!!

I tracked down a couple of adapters from a hobby web site. I'm hoping this will solve my problem. Does anyone have suggestions or comments? Doesn't this seem odd? Is this some sort of proprietary BS on Antec's part due to the fact that I did not buy one of their PSUs?

Thank you in advance,
M

With the 900 is use here all fans used the standard 12v molex type generally used for ide drives. With multiple rails especially that provies the additional molex connectors like seen with the OCZ GameXStream 700w model supply. The one fan added to the side cover uses a 3 or 4pin connection on the board. That was also an Antec 120mm there.

All P/S just come with female molex connectors. Are you sure the fan connector is not universal with female on one end and male on the other like this one

The bottom coonector there is typically seen with the fans on the 900 being 12v while the top one shows the type going to the board and monitored in the bios or with a program like SpeedFan or PC Wizard. The P182 has the single 120 in the front while the 900 has one on each pull out 3 1/2" drive bay. That's double jeapordy but still solved here easy anough.

I,m not talking about the 3 pin motherboard connector, some fans had a dual molex connector with a female on one end and male on the other instead of 2 molex connectors with one female and one male

You will also note the 3/4pin connector as well as the dual ended molex type in the photos there. They have a more universal fit since they handle 12v while still being able to run at 3.3v or 5v. For Antec cases you simply need one or more fans with those or a supply with multiple rails. With the trend going sata and boards more commonly seeing only one ide channel that frees up the typical molex connectors for other applications.

Even a PSU with a single rail can run these fans. What I typically do when I'm building in a P182 or P190 system is pull all of the fan connectors over to the cable management area behind the mobo and daisy chain them together. If you take all three fan connectors in your P182, you can connect them all to each other and then use only one Molex connector from your PSU to power them all.

Those fans don't have the 3-pin connectors because connecting a bunch of big 120mm fans to mobo fan connectors isn't a universally good idea.

Hope that helps!

The 3/4pin plugs are there for use with 12v capable fan controllers that do often plug into the board. That also allows monitoring fans as far as speed and voltages along with other hardwares and even having an alarm setting if the fans slow down too far often from dust buildup.
