Anti-Static Wrist Strap

Hey guys,
I just received a few of my stuff in the mail today. (mobo, cpu, videocard, etc.) along with this stuff i got an Ultra Anti-Static Wrist Strap. Being too excited to wait until I was actually building my computer to open up the wrist strap, i noticed that there was a stretchy string with a button on one end and a clip on the other. The button attatches to the wrist strap but I have no clue where I'm supposed to clip the clip. Any ideas guys?

Clip the strap to something grounded; a metal water faucet is good if one is nearby, but the metal plate on the back of the case can also work. There is more, that is all I know of, though.

Yea, something metal that will ground the electricity. Personally, I've never used a static wrist strap because i felt there was no need to. But it's your precaution. :)

I almost always use an anti-static wrist band; it's an extra caution so you don't blow a motherboard or processor. The wrist band goes around your wrist, and the cable attaches to the button on one end and some metal (not painted) part of your case.

I have NEVER used an anti-static wrist band, and have yet to kill a machine. The closest I've come is when working on an old mac, I got shocked though a screw on the back. I beleive there was some other short that caused this, but the mobo never worked after that. It was a halfway decent one too!

i have only worn a wrist strap once... in an IT class during school... just to show us what it was... even after that we were never required to wear it during class...

If you are in one position and going to work on your pc, you can grund youself to the case before touching components, mobo, cpu and ram in particular. Ifyou move from your work area and return, ground yourself again.
The wrist strap is a great idea, but can get in the way. If it doesn't bother you, use it.
Running around the house, trying to catch the cat, and working on a pc withoutbeing grounded is NOT a recommended procedure. :o :o

so the purpose of this artifact is to not burn your mobo or you cpu?
or to not get shocked ?
sry me lil slow

lil to small

It's pretty much just there to make sure you don't fry anything. Otherwise it's just a waste of space. I don't plan on using one anytime soon.
