antispyware software

I recently got AVG AntiSpyware because AVG AntiVirus kept my previous computers 99% virus-free all by itself for years. However, I just realized that a very integral part of the software, the Resident Sheild, is only free for 30 days. After that, I have to subscribe.

Can anyone link me to a piece of anti-virus software? I want one that not only finds and deletes spyware products on every scan, but also takes record of those spyware products and prevents them from ever coming on my computer again. Also, it must be 100%, completely, no-strings-attached free. Being in college now, I can't pay for anything I don't absolutely have to.

EDIT: Btw, if the software pays for its services with ads, that's fine.

Active Virus Shield by Kaspersky for AOL - 100% free
(Shield & Scanner & Kill)

SpywareBlaster - 100% free
(Shield & Kill)

I use Adaware and Spybot. Neither have actual shields, but honestly, if you use Firefox, you're pretty darn safe for the most part.

I currently am using that exact application. Its free. The only thing is, after 30 days they disable the resident shield and the auto update. So you will have to update and scan your pc manually, if that bothers you :s

I used Spybot: Search & Destroy on my previous computer, but then I had to get a new tower, and every time I google Spybot: Search & Destroy, I get a bunch of similars like Spywarebot: Search & Destroy.

Tell me, is this the one that, in its liscense agreement, it says something like "About why this service is free: What do you get when you buy software? Lots of ones and zeroes, that's all. Still, I have to pay the bill, and while I still think software should be free, I have to rely on donations, so send them in," or something to that affect?

Btw, Gearbox, you need to capitalize the b's in your sig. Lower case b means bit, upper case means byte, and I don't think your RAM is 512 megabits.
